Village Potential Survey

Village Potential Survey

April 26, 2018 | BPS Activities

Rural development should be a priority in national development. The village development movement is aimed at supporting the implementation of the Village Law and guarding the achievement of the targets of the Medium Term Development Plan (RPJM). Implementation of national and regional development policies and programs needs to be supported by the availability of locally based data and information (spatial) complementing other existing sectoral data.
The Village Potential Data (Podes) is the only spatial (spatial) data held by BPS that emphasizes the potential of the territory situation. For example, Podes data are used for the identification of regional typologies such as urban-rural, non-coastal, lagging-non-abandoned, and so on. Podes in 2018 were also conducted to see the impact of village funds on economic growth and people's quality of life.
Podes have been implemented since 1980. The Podes data collection is done 3 times over the next 10 years, as part of a 10-year cycle of census activities conducted by BPS. Podes were conducted 2 years before the implementation of the census to support the smooth implementation of the census. Podes 2018 is implemented in all administrative regions of the village level, also covering all sub-districts and districts throughout Indonesia. The data collected in Podes 2018 is a general data that gives an indication of the potential existence of a region. Data on the potential of all areas to the smallest level (samll areas) is an important material for the planning, implementation, control, and evaluation of regional development.
